Hyderabad | The death toll in the "adulterated" toddy tragedy here rose to seven following the death of a woman who was undergoing treatment in a state-run hospital, police said on Monday.

Gangamani, who was being treated at the Gandhi government hospital for ill-health after allegedly consuming the adulterated toddy, died on Monday morning, hospital sources said.

The sources said 16 people were being treated in the hospital as of Monday morning and that four of them would be discharged soon.

Three patients have left the hospital against medical advice, they said.

Following the death of this woman, the death toll in the tragedy rose to seven, a police official told PTI.

Some patients who fell ill after allegedly consuming the contaminated toddy were being treated at the state-run Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in the city.

Over 50 people had fallen ill after consuming the "adulterated" toddy in different shops on July 6 and 7 in Kukatpally, Balanagar, and other areas of the city.

Officials had said it was established that the toddy sold at some of the outlets was allegedly laced with Alprazolam, a psychotropic substance. Following this, the licenses of the said shops were suspended.
