Kozhikode (Kerala) | A man was arrested from Beypore here on Thursday in connection with a defamatory social media post against Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan regarding his recent helicopter trip to Kochi which has invited intense criticism from the opposition CPI(M).

A senior police officer of the district confirmed the arrest of Nidhin, a resident of Beypore, in connection with the post.

According to the FIR lodged on August 4 against the accused, he put up a defamatory post against the CM and made derogatory and abusive comments in it regarding Satheesan's recent helicopter trip.

The FIR claims the derogatory remarks were made with the intention of creating unrest in society and destroying public peace.

The accused has been booked for the offences under sections 192 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) and 356(defamation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and section 120(o) (causing nuisance by any means of communication) of the Kerala Police Act.

The action was taken on the complaint of one Rajeev K, police said.

The complaint was forwarded to the Kozhikode City Cyber police station from the office of the police commissioner, it said.

Following the intense criticism of his helicopter trip, Satheesan had claimed that he had used it to travel to Kochi to meet some investors. However, he declined to disclose whom he met, contending that "sometimes people may be met in secret".
