Kannur PRD official suspended for unauthorised release of poll related complaint

A public relations department official of the district has been suspended for "prematurely" releasing to the media, without authorisation, a complaint received in connection with the Kerala Assembly polls

Kannur(Kerala) | A public relations department official of the district has been suspended for "prematurely" releasing to the media, without authorisation, a complaint received in connection with the Kerala Assembly polls, EC authorities said on Saturday.

The complaint was released to the media on Friday, before the enquiry process was completed. This action constitutes a prima facie breach of official duty in connection with the polls under the Representation of the People Act, 1951, a statement from the Election Commission said.

It is also a violation of the Election Commission of India's instructions on neutrality of official machinery, the poll panel said.

"The District Election Officer has taken serious note of the lapse, and the concerned officer has been placed under suspension pending enquiry. Necessary arrangements have been made to ensure continuity of official work," it said.

The complaint alleged the UDF's defamation of LDF's Azheekode constituency candidate, K V Sumesh.
