Thiruvananthapuram | Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar and Chief Minister V D Satheesan on Tuesday extended Onam greetings to the people of Kerala and Malayalis worldwide, highlighting the festival's message of equality, harmony and togetherness.

In his message, Arlekar said Onam, Kerala's most cherished festival, marks the joyous return of the mythical King Mahabali to his beloved subjects and fills the land and people's hearts with the radiance of sunshine, flowers and songs.

"Onam transcends caste, creed and religion, carrying forward the timeless message of equality, harmony and hope for a just world," he said.

The governor said traditional attire, the grand Onasadhya (feast) and the spirit of togetherness make the festival truly unforgettable.

"As I celebrate my second Onam in this beautiful state, I pray that its blessings of peace and prosperity reach every home in Kerala. My warmest Onam wishes to all," Arlekar said.

In his message, Satheesan described Onam as a noble expression of Malayali culture and a celebration that transcends caste and religious differences.

Every Onam celebration inspires people to overcome adversity, instils confidence and reminds them that they are not alone in times of crisis, he said.

"May everyone be able to celebrate Onam with family and friends, leaving behind sorrows and difficulties," the CM said.

Noting that the difficulties caused by natural disasters had not yet fully passed, Satheesan said people draw strength and confidence from every celebration to overcome challenges.

He said the government had made all arrangements to ensure that people could celebrate Onam without the burden of rising prices and expressed hope that Thiruvonam would bring happiness and strength for the journey ahead.

At a time when some people seek to sow hatred and division in society for their own gain, people should stand united, rising above differences of caste and religion, Satheesan said, adding that this too was the message of Onam.
