Kottayam (Kerala) | Congress leader P C Vishnunadh on Monday alleged that the CPI(M) was trying to "fish in troubled waters" amid the controversy among party workers over the selection of the next Kerala CM.
He was referring to CCTV visuals from Vadanappally in which a CPI(M) worker was allegedly seen installing a flex board demanding that K C Venugopal be made the next chief minister of Kerala.
"CPI(M) is trying to fish in troubled waters. They want to create an impression that, despite the high command's directive not to put up flex boards in support of any leader, such actions are continuing. They want to make it appear that Congress workers do not support the high command's directive," Vishnunadh said.
He also raised suspicions about a recent demonstration in Thiruvananthapuram related to the chief ministerial selection, during which a person was seen tearing a flex board carrying the picture of former CM Oommen Chandy.
"No Congress worker would burn or damage a flex board featuring Oommen Chandy," he said.
Chandy Oommen, son of the late Oommen Chandy, also said that Congress workers would not indulge in such acts.
"I want to tell those putting up flex boards and carrying out demonstrations that we should remain patient. Otherwise, others may take advantage of the situation," he said.
Oommen also alleged that several people using fake social media accounts and posing as Congress workers were posting messages related to the chief ministerial selection.
After the UDF won 102 of the 140 seats in the Kerala Assembly elections, the Congress high command is expected to take a decision on the next CM.
Recently, flex boards were put up, and demonstrations were held across Kerala in support of V D Satheesan, K C Venugopal, and Ramesh Chennithala, who are considered strong contenders for the CM's post.
However, as the situation escalated, the high command and senior party leaders appealed to workers to refrain from such activities
