Thiruvananthapuram | The Kerala BJP on Friday drew parallels between the ongoing agitation by the PSC rank holders outside the Secretariat here and the student protests in Delhi's Jantar Mantar, accusing the UDF government of adopting a different approach after coming to power.
Addressing a Yuva Morcha march to the Secretariat, former state BJP president K Surendran alleged that those who had extended support to protesters in the national capital were now ignoring Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) job aspirants staging a protest outside the state Secretariat.
"When in the opposition, (CM) V D Satheesan had said PSC aspirants would not have to agitate even for a day if the UDF came to power. Today, rank holders are again protesting before the Secretariat, but the government has neither invited them for talks nor announced a clear timeline for appointments," he alleged.
Surendran also accused the state government of showing no interest in probing alleged irregularities in the PSC during the previous LDF government's tenure, while being keen to suppress allegations of corruption against the present administration.
He claimed allegations of some of the "most serious irregularities" in the history of the PSC had surfaced during the tenure of the previous CPI(M)-led LDF government, but no comprehensive probe had been ordered, nor had those responsible been brought to book.
The BJP leader further alleged that the silence of opposition youth organisations, including the DYFI, associated with the CPI (M) on the PSC issue was noteworthy, claiming it stemmed from the fact that the commission's governing body was appointed during the previous LDF regime.
Surendran also criticised the UDF government's handling of flood relief operations, alleging a lack of coordination and leadership in relief measures.
He said the Yuva Morcha, BJP's youth wing would continue to support the PSC rank holders' agitation until eligible candidates received justice and the appointment process was expedited.
