Bhubaneswar | Few institutes in India have influenced the economic activity in its peripheral area the way KIIT DU has done. Ever since its inception in the early 90s, the University has made a profound impact on the lives of the people in the northern limits of Bhubaneswar.
The areas around KIIT have developed into a veritable economic nerve centre of the city. Today, these places have transformed not only as upmarket localities but have become premier localities supporting IT and IT-related services.
The credit for the exponential growth goes to the Founder of KIIT and KISS Dr Achyuta Samanta, who dreamt to build an institute that not only offered quality education to students from all sections of society but make learning affordable for all. This vision led to an unprecedented growth of KIIT and KISS, attracting students from far and wide. Today KIIT is ranked 20th best in the country by the Central Government. The KISS, on the other hand, has become the largest university for tribal students worldwide.
KIIT has created employment opportunities for thousands. While KIIT has employed over 15,000 in its group of institutions such as KIIT, KISS and KIMS, estimate suggests that over 2 lakh indirect employment opportunities have been generated because of the University. The mushrooming of commercial enterprises and an ongoing real estate boon have brought more prosperity to this region centred around the sprawling 25 sq.km KIIT campus.
One of the areas, in particular, that has immensely benefitted from this development as well as supported KIIT in its evolution is village Patia and its people. On March 18, Dr Samanta visited the locality and handed over fresh appointment letters to 125 unemployed youths acknowledging the village’s continued contribution to the University. With this, the number of people from Patia, who are employed in KIIT, KISS and KIMS, has gone up to 325 (225 were employed earlier).
""This is a record of sorts. No other village in the country has seen as many youths being recruited by a single institute as this village has seen,'' Dr Samanta said in his address at the Job Fair organised by KIIT DU.
Its no denying the fact that the city of Bhubaneswar has grown proportionately in size and scope because of premier institutes such as KIIT and healthcare centres such as KIMS. The city is ranked among the top 10 places in the country in terms of educational opportunities and healthcare delivery services.
The city could also hold big events Indian Science Congress, prestigious national and international seminars and symposiums because of KIIT. So much so that the increased financial activities around the KIIT campus have skipped no attention.
Places like Patia as well as residential colonies in close vicinity of KIIT such as SailashreeVihar, NiladriVihar, MaitriVihar, and Nandan Vihar, mere sleepy postal addresses till a decade ago, have adapted rapidly to the KIIT-led economic growth and have become sought-after places for the thousands scouting for homes and offices.
