Chandigarh | Police in Chandigarh conducted a thorough check in multiple schools and government buildings on Monday after bomb threat emails were received, officials said, adding nothing suspicious was found, however.
Three private schools were among the first to receive the bomb threat emails, with the message claiming that explosions would occur at specific times during school hours.
Police teams were dispatched to the locations, and a search was initiated inside these educational institutions.
As a precautionary measure, a police official said, a thorough check was also launched in several other schools in the city.
Search and sanitisation operations were also carried out in the government buildings named in the same threat email sent to the schools.
Though nothing has been found so far, security has been tightened across Chandigarh, including educational institutions and key government establishments, said a police official, who was present at one of the schools where the check was conducted An investigation has also been launched into the origin of the emails and to identify the sender.
Meanwhile, in Punjab's Ferozepur, the district court complex also received a bomb threat via email, after which the premises were evacuated.
The bomb disposal and dog squads were deployed at the site, and a thorough search operation was carried out.
However, nothing suspicious was found, officials said.
The fresh incidents come close on the heels of similar incidents in the past few weeks at multiple places in Punjab and Haryana, including Chandigarh, where some schools and the High Court received threats that later turned out to be a hoax.
