Jaipur | A nine-year-old boy who fell into a borewell while trying to retrieve a kite in Rajasthan's Alwar district was rescued after an operation that lasted nearly six hours, police said.
The incident occurred in the Laxmangarh area on Monday evening, following which police and district administration officials rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
The boy, Bhanu, a resident of Butoli village, was rushed to a hospital after he was taken out. Police said he fell into the borewell while trying to retrieve a kite.
Alwar Superintendent of Police Sudhir Chaudhary said several police teams were deployed at the site as efforts continued to rescue the child.
Rescuers initially began digging a parallel pit to reach the boy. Three JCB machines were pressed into service for the excavation, he said.
Teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police and district administration took part in the operation. Local villagers also assisted the rescuers.
When the rescue team heard the child's voice from inside, a camera and a rope were lowered into the borewell. Oxygen was continuously supplied to the boy inside the borewell, officials said.
