Kolkata | A low-pressure system over the northwest Bay of Bengal will bring heavy to very heavy rainfall in several places of West Bengal over the next few days, the IMD said on Wednesday.
The Met advised fishermen not to venture into the sea till July 18, while warning of possible landslides in the hill districts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong and waterlogging in low-lying areas of the plains.
The system is very likely to intensify into a well-marked low-pressure system and move northwards across Gangetic West Bengal over the next two days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall will occur in some districts of south Bengal, including Purba and Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram, Purulia and Bankura till July 17, it said.
Heavy rain will also occur at some places in Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, the IMD said.
As the weather system moves northwards, it is very likely to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to the sub-Himalayan districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar on July 19 and 20.
