New Delhi | Aam Aadmi Party national convenor and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday congratulated the women of Kerala after the state government launched a free bus travel scheme for them.
"Congratulations to the women of Kerala. It is heartening to see our work in Delhi and Punjab inspiring other state governments to launch such impactful welfare schemes," Kejriwal said in a post on X.
Recalling the launch of the scheme in Delhi, he said the initiative had immense potential as it enabled women to seek employment opportunities without worrying about commuting expenses and allowed female students to pursue education without financial anxiety.
Fulfilling a key poll promise, the Congress-led UDF government on Monday rolled out the free bus travel for women scheme, with Chief Minister VD Satheesan calling it a "decisive step" towards building a new Kerala.
At the inauguration of the scheme in Thiruvananthapuram, Satheesan said free bus travel was a tribute to the women of the state and also conveyed a message that society should learn to respect women.
