Mumbai | Marathi-Malayali Ethnic Festival Season 6 will be held from February 14 to 16 at Nehru Science Center under Ministry of Culture, Worli. The Marathi-Malayali Ethnic Festival was started 8 years ago by combining the art and culture of Maharashtra and Kerala and presenting a new platform of mutuality and brotherhood to the metropolis.
In 2017, 'All Mumbai Malayali Association' (AMMA) in collaboration with the Nehru Science Center under the Ministry of Culture of the Central Government organized such a program for the first time in Mumbai.
Although many Kerala festivals are held in Mumbai, there are not many celebrations that combine the art and culture of Maharashtra and Kerala. AMMA office bearers mentioned that the Marathi Malayalam Ethnic Festival is being conducted in this context.
This year, the three-day long festival will be organized with more innovations and will feature Maharashtra's art forms like Lavani, Koli Dance, Mangala Gauri, Rangoli, etc. and Kerala arts like Mohiniyattam, Margamkali, Oppana and folk dances will be performed in front of the invited audience from 5 pm to 8 pm.
Program Committee Director and AMMA President Jojo Thomas said that the program has been planned in such a way as to invoke the cultural traditions of both the states.
As part of the fest, circulars will be distributed to schools in Mumbai and suburbs through the Nehru Science Centre. With the participation of school students, various competitions such as Painting, Speech, Rangoli, Lavani, Mohiniyattam, Koli Dance etc. will be held for schools from 10 am to 5 pm focusing on topics based on Marathi-Malayalam cultural exchange.
Jojo Thomas said that 'Ethnic Fest' has already become a South Mumbai school youth festival. He also informed that people from the political, cultural and film fields of Maharashtra and Kerala will participate in the event as guests.
