Mumbai | Various passenger organizations are set to stage a protest on August 22, voicing their discontent over the delay in the running of local trains. They are also expected to raise concerns about the pressing need for improved infrastructure. Office-bearers of these organizations and the passengers expressed growing anxiety over the persistent delays in local train services, calling for immediate remedial steps.
They accused the railways of focusing attention on long-distance trains while turning a blind eye to the needs of local services. However, the railway administration denied this and a senior official said that during peak hours, suburban trains were given top priority to efficiently manage the passenger surge.
Mumbai Rail Pravasi Sangh secretary Siddhesh Desai said the main meeting to finalize the protest's details would be convened in Thane, where crucial decisions would be discussed. The meeting is expected to be attended by Latha Arghade, the secretary of the Federation of Suburban Passengers' Association, and Madhu Kotian of the Mumbai Rail Pravasi Sangh.
