Thiruvananthapuram | Cooperative infrastructure major, Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS) on Saturday denied allegations of irregularities in the execution of projects funded by the KIIFB, asserting that all works were awarded through transparent tender procedures.
In a Facebook post, the Society was responding to media reports claiming that it had received projects worth Rs 6,000 crore through the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) and that the scope of a Vigilance investigation would be expanded to cover them.
The ULCCS said it had secured KIIFB projects only through open tenders after complying with the board's stringent tender conditions and quoting the lowest rates.
It also maintained that all projects undertaken by it were executed in accordance with KIIFB's strict conditions and high quality standards.
All procedures relating to the projects, right from the tendering stage, were transparent, the ULCCS said, adding that no allegations had been raised regarding these works before the present political controversy.
Appealing to media organisations not to publish reports that create suspicion or make factually incorrect claims against it, the Society further said such coverage could undermine an institution with a century-long record of unblemished service.
The ULCCS said it supported 18,000 families and was the fourth-largest employer in the state, urging all socially responsible sections not to take steps that would weaken the cooperative institution.
Founded by a group of youngsters inspired by the teachings of social reformer and renaissance flag-bearer Vagbhatanandan as a workers' collective at a village near Uralungal in Kozhikode district in 1925, ULCCL is now a mega enterprise with an annual turnover of Rs 3000 crore and a large workforce on muster rolls.
