Kannur (Keralam) | Two people were killed after a tanker lorry crashed into a timber-laden truck parked on the roadside at Pilathara here early on Monday, police said.

According to police, the incident occurred around 2.30 am when the two deceased, who were mechanics, were attending to the parked truck after it broke down.

The tanker lorry, which allegedly lost control, hit the stationary truck, triggering a fire.

The two mechanics sustained serious injuries in the impact and were rushed to a hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries, police said.

The timber-laden truck was completely gutted in the fire, which was later doused by fire and rescue personnel who reached the spot.

Police said the tanker lorry was immediately moved away from the site to prevent the fire from spreading to it.

An investigation is underway, and CCTV cameras in the area are being checked to ascertain the cause of the accident, police added.
