Thiruvananthapuram | Two persons were arrested with around 100 grams of MDMA near the Kovalam bypass junction here in the early hours of Monday, police said.
The arrested were identified as Ananthakrishnan, a native of Sreekaryam, and Thomas, a native of Thumba, police said.
Ananthakrishnan is an accused in multiple criminal cases registered under the Sreekaryam police station limits, they said.
According to police, the accused were transporting the drugs in a car and intended to sell them in the Kazhakoottam-Technopark area.
A District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF) team, which had been tracking the suspects in a private vehicle, attempted to intercept them.
Realising that they were being followed, the suspects allegedly tried to flee and rammed their car into the police vehicle before speeding away, officials said.
The police team pursued the vehicle and intercepted it near the bypass junction, following which both suspects were apprehended, officials said.
A packet containing MDMA was recovered from the petrol tank lid of the car, while another packet was allegedly concealed inside the shoe of one of the accused.
Police are interrogating the duo to identify those who supplied the drugs to them, officials said.
People to whom the duo allegedly sold drugs regularly will also be tracked as part of the investigation, police added.
