Thiruvananthapuram | A sense of decorum must be maintained in the Assembly while raising any issue in the public interest, senior Congress leader Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, the Speaker-designate, said on Monday.
At the same time, Radhakrishnan said the Assembly is not a place to use force or a cane to ensure discipline; instead, it is a forum to foster an emotional connect based on love and unity.
"I am confident everyone will cooperate in maintaining the decorum of the House," he added while speaking to a TV channel.
He also said he would examine how to manage the proceedings of the House by discussing it with all stakeholders and taking into account past practices.
"I will take it forward logically," he said.
Radhakrishnan is expected to be appointed Speaker of the Assembly on May 22.
Till then, former CPI(M) leader and UDF-backed independent MLA G Sudhakaran, representing Ambalapuzha constituency in Alappuzha district, will serve as the pro-tem Speaker.
