The monsoon has not been active in Kerala with rain deficiency as on date standing at minus 65 per cent. Till now, rainfall in the State has not exceeded the climatological normal, say climatology experts.
While the State received 180.4 mm rainfall from June 1 to June 24, the normal is 511.1 mm. It has been deficient in all districts with Kannur, Idukki, Kasargod, Kottayam, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur and Wayanad (the highest) having large deficiency.
The next active spell is expected over the coming week till the first one of July. Good spells can be expected in the second week of July as well, say experts.
It appears the monsoon is likely to be revived along the northern West coast from Kasargod to Mumbai as well as in some areas of Central India in the next few days when low pressure systems intrude to land. As far as Kerala is considered, there is not much rain expected but for generally broad moderate spells with one or two days of heavy rain.
Till now rainfall has been much less. Even while there may be some rain during the next couple of days, it may not be enough, experts add.
