Kasaradgod (Kerala) | Congress MP Rajmohan Unnithan on Saturday broke his silence over the next Kerala CM issue, strongly criticising certain remarks against the IUML as well as the destruction of the flexboard of party general secretary K C Venugopal by workers.
He termed such acts as "divisive tactics".
Unnithan said that Venugopal and senior party leaders V D Satheesan and Ramesh Chennithala were eligible to lay claims to the post of CM and supporters can carry out public demonstrations for that, but it has to be done by following the party discipline.
He said that during one such parade in Thiruvananthapuram, the flexboard of Venugopal, which also contained the image of party stalwart late Oommen Chandy, was destroyed, but not one party leader has spoken out against that.
The Kasaragod MP said that everyone should await the decision of the high command, instead of coming out on the streets and carrying out public demonstrations as the same amounts to "divisive tactics".
Unnithan also hit out at party MLA Mathew Kuzhalnadan over the latter's recent remarks that the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) will not interefere in the internal matters of the Congress and the media was creating confusion over the issue.
The Congress MP said that IUML is part of team UDF, which had won in the state assembly polls and it was entitled to speak about issues that affect the front, including who should be the CM, and questioned "what right" does Kuzhalnadan have to make such statements.
"In fact, all the minority and religious groups who helped UDF win are eligible to express their views on the matter," he added.
He said that no one should show intolerance to someone indicating their view and reminded that the observers sent by the party high command had spoken to everyone, including the UDF constituents like IUML, Kerala Congress, Revolutional Socialist Party, among others.
Satheesan, Chennithala and KPCC president Sunny Joseph arrived in Delhi on Friday night for talks with the party leadership regarding government formation and the leadership issue.
