Malappuram (Keralam) | A case was registered against a poultry farm owner in Keezhattur here after two brothers were electrocuted by an illegal electric fence installed at the farm, officials said on Thursday.
The case was registered against poultry farm owner Sameer under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for culpable homicide and Section 135(1)(e) of the Electricity Act for power theft.
According to police, Sameer ran a poultry farm at Akkaparambu near Keezhattur and had allegedly installed an illegal electric fence to prevent animals from entering the farm at night.
The two brothers, Sahir Navas (36) and Muhammad Faisal Murshid (32), of Vettathur in the district, had reached the farm to supply poultry feed when they came into contact with the live fence around 10.30 am on Wednesday, police said.
Though both were rushed to a nearby hospital, they succumbed to their injuries.
Sameer usually switched off the electric fence in the morning, but allegedly forgot to do it on Wednesday, resulting in the fatal incident.
Sameer has been absconding since the incident and efforts are on to trace him, police said.
A couple from Assam who worked at a poultry farm in Desamangalam, Thrissur, also died after being electrocuted in a similar manner on August 22, they said.
