Wayanad (Kerala) | Kerala ministers T Siddique and A P Anilkumar on Wednesday said that a scientific examination would have to be carried out to determine the actual reasons for the landslide in Wayanad, while making it clear that no one responsible for it would be able to "wash their hands off" the incident.
Siddique and Anilkumar, who reached Wayanad to coordinate the search and rescue efforts, told reporters that the current focus was on searching for those missing in the incident.
They said that a scientific examination would have to be carried out to identify the various factors that might have caused the landslide at the tunnel road construction site near Meenakshi Bridge at Kalladi.
The ministers said that the views expressed by them so far regarding the incident were only preliminary opinions.
"But no one responsible for the incident will be able to wash their hands off and escape," Anilkumar added.
His cabinet colleague, Public Works Department Minister P K Basheer, said that an expert committee would look into the reasons for the landslide, following which the further course of action would be decided after discussions with CM V D Satheesan.
"We have no intention of ending the project. We want to take it forward in a systematic manner without causing harm to anyone," he said.
Three persons, all migrant workers, were killed and several others were injured in the landslide on July 7 at the construction site of the tunnel connecting Wayanad and Kozhikode districts.
