Kottayam (Keralam) | A 45-year-old man died after allegedly being assaulted by his son at Manimala here, police said on Monday.
The deceased is Santhosh Kumar M G of Cheruveli near Manimala.
Police arrested Kumar's son, Sachu, on Sunday night, officials said.
Kumar was rushed to Ranni Taluk Hospital early on Sunday early morning with severe head injuries and later shifted to Kottayam Medical College, where he was declared dead.
Police said the family initially claimed that Kumar had fallen in the courtyard and sustained head injuries.
However, suspecting the family's version, police registered a case of unnatural death and launched a detailed investigation on Sunday.
The postmortem examination and preliminary investigation revealed that Kumar died after being hit on the head with a stick, police said.
Based on the preliminary findings, police took Sachu into custody.
He later confessed to the crime, officials said.
Kumar lived at Makkapuzha near Ranni in Pathanamthitta district and rarely visited his family at Cheruveli, police said.
On Saturday night, Kumar arrived at the house and created a ruckus under the influence of alcohol, prompting his son to assault him, police added.
The arrested person will be produced before the court as part of the remand procedure later on Monday.
