Thiruvananthapuram | A court has sentenced a land surveyor attached to the Taluk Land Records Office to four years of rigorous imprisonment in a bribery case.
Thiruvananthapuram Vigilance Court Judge Manoj A sentenced Gireeshan C, a native of Chirayinkeezhu, to four years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000.
Gireeshan is currently serving as a First Grade Surveyor in the Survey Superintendent's Office in Kasaragod.
According to the prosecution, the case dates back to 2022, when a complainant from Chirayinkeezhu approached the Taluk Land Records Office in Thiruvananthapuram with a petition alleging that one acre from his two-acre property had been transferred to the name of his sister's son.
Gireeshan, who was assigned to measure the land and submit a report, allegedly delayed the process.
When the complainant met him directly, he demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 to forward the report.
Acting on the complaint, the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) laid a trap and caught him red-handed while accepting the bribe.
The case was investigated by the VACB Special Investigation Unit-I, and the charge sheet was filed by VACB officer Reji Jacob.
Public Prosecutor V Sateeshan appeared for the prosecution.
Gireeshan has been shifted to the Thiruvananthapuram Central Jail.
