Thiruvananthapuram | The KPCC will hold a protest march to the Lok Bhavan here on September 25, demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The march, being organised as part of a nationwide protest called by the AICC, will begin at 4 pm, the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) general secretary Neyyattinkara Sanal said in a statement on Thursday.
Chief Minister, KPCC president, ministers, MPs, MLAs, KPCC office-bearers and elected representatives of local bodies are expected to participate in the protest, he said.
On September 26, similar marches will be held to district headquarters under the leadership of the respective District Congress Committees (DCCs), he said.
The leader alleged that Kumar was taking decisions that undermined the electoral process, which should be conducted in a fair and independent manner.
He further alleged that the CEC was taking positions favourable to the ruling alliance while heading a constitutional institution.
The CEC had taken several decisions favouring the BJP and weakening the democratic process, even overriding dissenting views of other Election Commission members, Sanal alleged.
He urged "all believers in democracy" to participate in the nationwide protest led by the Congress to ensure the independence and impartiality of the Election Commission.
