Malappuram (Keralam) | The death toll in the recent flash flood in the Kottappuzha River in this north Keralam district rose to six on Tuesday after rescue teams recovered the body of a missing woman, officials said.
"The body of Sajitha (wife of Veluthedathu Sanjay Das), who went missing in the flash flood at TK Colony in Pookkottumpadam, Nilambur, has been recovered," an official said.
They said fire and rescue services recovered Sajitha's body from a rocky area in the river after the floodwater receded.
The disaster occurred on Sunday afternoon when a sudden surge of water swept through the river, trapping several individuals.
Sajitha, 26, a local, was washing clothes on the riverbank when she was swept away by the strong current.
With the recovery of Sajitha's body, officials confirmed that all missing individuals have now been accounted for, marking the conclusion of search operations.
Bodies of five people, all tourists from the same district, were recovered during search operations on Sunday and Monday.
Chief Minister V D Satheesan had visited affected families on Monday and said the government would soon roll out an SOP to respond to such sudden natural disasters.
Satheesan also assured support to the affected families and said financial assistance would be announced after the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
