Kochi | Congress leader Raju P Nair on Saturday gave his statement to police here in connection with a case registered against the managing director of a Malayalam television channel over his alleged remarks concerning Keralam Chief Minister VD Satheesan.
The case was registered on a complaint by Nair seeking a probe into an alleged conspiracy to defame Satheesan following remarks by Reporter Broadcasting Company Managing Director Anto Augustine that two persons had approached him with documents purportedly related to Satheesan's second marriage, which were later alleged to be fabricated.
The Thiruvananthapuram City Cyber Police Station initially registered the case, which was later transferred to the Kalamassery police station here.
Nair reached the police station on Saturday morning and gave his statement.
"I have raised my suspicion before the police that the revelation was part of a pressure tactic. The conspiracy behind it has to be probed," he told reporters after giving his statement.
Nair said Augustine's remarks came after a Special Investigation Team was formed to probe the failed attempt to host a football match featuring Argentina and star player Lionel Messi, sponsored by RBC.
"If Augustine was convinced that the documents he received were fake, he should have reported the matter to the police. So I suspect a conspiracy behind the revelation to defame the CM," he said.
Augustine was arrested by Excise officials after liquor in excess of the permissible limit was found at a house in Wayanad during an SIT raid.
Augustine, however, claimed that the house where the liquor was seized did not belong to him.
