Thiruvananthapuram | In a relief to kidney and liver patients and those suffering from certain genetic disorders, the Keralam government has allocated Rs 4.80 crore for the 'Samashwasam' scheme for 2026-27.
The scheme is implemented through the Kerala Social Security Mission under the Social Justice Department.
It provides monthly financial assistance to 3,640 eligible beneficiaries undergoing dialysis, those who have undergone kidney or liver transplants, and patients suffering from haemophilia, sickle cell disease and related conditions, Social Justice Minister V E Abdul Gafoor said in a statement.
Under the scheme, 360 beneficiaries who have undergone kidney or liver transplant surgeries and 1,400 people suffering from haemophilia and related disorders caused by a deficiency of blood-clotting factors will receive Rs 1,000 each per month, he said.
Besides, 1,680 people undergoing dialysis for kidney-related ailments will receive Rs 1,100 per month, while 200 patients suffering from sickle cell disease will get Rs 2,000 per month, the minister said.
The Samashwasam scheme provides financial support to patients who incur high expenses for life-saving treatments, he said.
The government order sanctioning the amount was issued after considering a proposal from the executive director of the Kerala Social Security Mission and the approval of the departmental working group.
Steps have been completed to distribute the first instalment, covering four months' assistance, to the beneficiaries.
The financial assistance will reach the eligible beneficiaries soon, the minister added.
