Thrissur (Kerala) | A school teacher has been booked for alleged hate remarks in connection with Onam celebrations in this central district of Kerala, police said on Wednesday.

The case was registered against the woman teacher of a private school in Kadavallur here on Tuesday based on a complaint of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), they said.

According to the complaint, the teacher recently posted a voice message in a WhatsApp group related to the school saying that there is no need of onam celebration in the institution as it is a festival of another religion, police said.

"The case was registered under section 192 (Wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) of BNS. An investigation is going on, and any further action is yet to be taken," a police officer said.

There were protests against the school in view of the incident, police added.
