Thiruvananthapuram | The Kerala government on Wednesday decided to impose a ban on trawling, the most common method of fishing, in the state's coastal waters for 52 days.

The decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting held during the day and chaired by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, a statement issued by his office said.

The Cabinet decided to prohibit trawling in the state's coastal waters from midnight of June 9 to midnight of July 31, the statement said.

A notification in this regard would be issued soon, it said.
