Thiruvananthapuram | Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan on Wednesday assured that the government would take steps to review a 2018 circular issued by the previous LDF government that imposed restrictions on media access inside the Secretariat campus.
Addressing a press conference, Satheesan said, "The UDF had opposed the media restrictions imposed by the previous LDF government at the Secretariat. That order is still in force. We will examine it and take appropriate action." The chief minister said the government had not yet been able to review the matter in detail due to pressing administrative priorities, including the preparation of a White Paper, the state Budget and the implementation of various commitments announced by the government.
"A circular issued in 2018 during the previous government's tenure continues to remain in force. A fresh order has to be issued to revoke or modify it," he said.
Satheesan assured journalists that the government would certainly take necessary steps after examining the issue.
"As of now, this government has not taken any direction to restrict the media," he added.
The CM's remarks come amid criticism from sections of the media over restrictions on journalists' movement and access within the Secretariat premises.
