Thiruvananthapuram | Governor Om Prakash Mathur on Saturday extended greetings to the people of the state ahead of the 70th Kerala Piravi, which will be observed on November 1.

In his message, the governor, who assumed office on October 23, noted that Keralam, formed in 1956 on linguistic lines, had developed a distinct identity over the past seven decades.

He said the state's achievements in education, healthcare and literacy continued to inspire the nation.

Paying tribute to social reformers such as Sree Narayana Guru, Ayyankali and Chattampi Swamikal, he said their ideals of equality and humanity continued to guide the state.

He lauded Keralam's language, art, culture, natural beauty and tradition of harmony, while acknowledging the contributions of Keralites living across the world.

The governor called upon everyone to reaffirm their commitment to strengthening unity, harmony and development, and assured the people that Lok Bhavan stood with them.

Kerala Piravi marks the formation of the state on November 1, 1956, nearly a decade after India's Independence. Before its formation, the region comprised four administrative areas - South Canara (including the Kasaragod region), Malabar, Cochin and Travancore - which were under different administrative and political arrangements.
