Thiruvananthapuram | BJP Keralam president Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Saturday alleged a "fixed match" between the Congress and the CPM over the CMRL-Exalogic case, in which former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's daughter is under the ED radar.
He said Chief Minister V D Satheesan had made Vijayan's alleged corruption an issue and that his party had sought votes in the name of that corruption.
In a post on X, Chandrasekhar said, that while corruption was a breach of trust, "political corruption is a betrayal of democracy."
"After coming to power, why have they done nothing on the Exalogic case," he asked, referring to the ruling Congress.
"There is a suspicion in the minds of the people that there is a fixed match between the CPI (M) and Congress. If CM VD Satheesan tries to play a fixed match with the CPI (M), the BJP will strongly oppose it," Chandrasekhar said.
His remarks came amid BJP continuing its criticism of the Congress-led UDF government for police not registering a corruption case against Marxist veteran Vijayan, presently Leader of Opposition, his daughter Veena T and son-in-law and MLA P A Mohammed Riyas based on a request from the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The ED had recently sent a letter to State Police Chief Ravada A Chandrasekhar seeking registration of an FIR against Vijayan, Veena, Riyas and some others in connection with the alleged CMRL bribery case, based on "evidence" gathered during its probe and searches conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The ED has alleged that Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd (CMRL) made fraudulent payments of Rs 2.78 crore to Veena's now-defunct company, Exalogic Solutions, under the guise of "IT consultancy services".
State Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala had earlier in the day said the government has received the Advocate General's legal opinion on registration of the case and that the Home Department was currently examining it.
