Thrissur (Kerala) | A fresh case was registered against a BJP leader for allegedly threatening his wife while he is facing an investigation in a case accusing him of assaulting her, officials said on Thursday.
The case was registered on Wednesday against BJP Thrissur South district president A R Sreekumar and his associate Kalladan Gireesh, police said.
Last week, the police had registered a case of attempt to commit culpable homicide against Sreekumar for allegedly assaulting his wife.
Sreekumar has approached the Thrissur District Sessions Court seeking anticipatory bail, and orders on the plea are pending, officials said.
The fresh case was registered after Gireesh allegedly trespassed into the complainant's house and threatened her to withdraw the assault case against Sreekumar and give a fresh statement denying allegations at the court, police said.
According to police, Gireesh is involved in multiple criminal cases and allegedly threatened the woman with consequences if she did not withdraw the complaint on June 14.
Mathilakam police registered the case under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for house trespass with intent to commit an offence, criminal intimidation and threatening a person.
The Sessions Court had directed them not to arrest Sreekumar until his anticipatory bail plea is disposed of.
