Thiruvananthapuram | A floating restaurant caught fire at Poovar on Monday, officials said.

According to Fire and Rescue Services officials, the restaurant was completely gutted in the blaze, and the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

The restaurant was owned by a person identified as Vineeth, officials said.

They said the fire broke out at around 5 am and was first noticed by employees of the restaurant, who were staying in a nearby house.

The employees initially attempted to douse the fire, but their efforts failed, following which they alerted the Fire and Rescue Services.

Although fire tenders were dispatched, they could not reach the restaurant, officials said.

Within an hour, the entire floating restaurant was engulfed in flames, causing an estimated loss of over Rs 50 lakh, officials said.

They added that two LPG cylinders also exploded during the fire, causing loud blasts.

As the incident occurred in the early morning hours, no one was present near the restaurant, and no injuries were reported, officials added.
