Thiruvananthapuram/Kasaragod | The DYFI on Tuesday took out protest marches to the DGP office here and the DySP office in Kanhangad, alleging that the investigation into the Kasaragod MDMA case involving a Youth Congress activist was being sabotaged.
The protests, organised by the youth wing of the CPI(M), witnessed a minor scuffle between police and DYFI workers at both places, following which the law enforcers used water cannons to disperse the protesters.
In Kanhangad in northern Kasaragod district, police put up barricades several metres away from the DySP office and stopped the march. A heavy police contingent was deployed at both protest venues.
The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) alleged that the investigation had not been extended to the alleged links of the accused with influential persons. There has been no effective probe beyond the arrests, the organisation alleged.
The DYFI further alleged that attempts were being made to sabotage the case as some of those involved were close to Chief Minister V D Satheesan.
The organisation said it would continue its protests against the alleged lapses in the investigation.
The Left outfit's protest came weeks after Satheesan had recently admitted that he personally knew two youths, Muhammad Hussain and Abdul Salam, who were arrested in connection with the MDMA case in Kasaragod. He had said Hussain was a Youth Congress activist.
The Chief Minister, however, had denied allegations that Hussain was part of his social media team.
Satheesan had said local party workers and the public were unaware of Hussain's alleged involvement in the drug case until his arrest.
