

Palakkad (Keralam) | A man was charred to death after a fire broke out following a collision between two lorries at Mundur here on Thursday, police said.
The deceased was identified as Nazarudheen CP (45) of Attassery, Sreekrishnapuram, in this district.
According to police, the accident occurred around 5.30 am in front of the Kanjikulam Service Cooperative Bank building on the Kozhikode-Palakkad highway at Mundur.
Police said Nazarudheen was driving a lorry towards Mannarkkad when it collided with a container lorry coming from the opposite direction.
Soon after the collision, a major fire broke out.
Though people attempted to rescue Nazarudheen, they could not reach him as the fire spread rapidly, police said.
Later, fire and rescue services personnel rushed to the spot and doused the fire before shifting Nazarudheen to a hospital, where he was declared dead.
The driver of the container lorry is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital with injuries.
Traffic on the stretch resumed after both vehicles were removed following more than two hours of efforts, police said.
Kongad police registered a case against the container lorry driver and started an investigation.
The body of Nazarudheen will be handed over to his relatives after postmortem, police said.
