Kasaragod | Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala on Wednesday advised the Youth Congress to carry out voluntary works as being done by the DYFI, the youth wing of the CPI(M), in the state to reach out to the people.
While the DYFI welcomed the statement made by Chennithala at a Youth Congress meeting at Kanhangad here, the Youth Congress state leadership was apparently shocked by the senior party leader's comments praising the Left outfit.
In his address, Chennithala compared the activities of the two organisations, saying while the DYFI served free meals to patients and bystanders at the Government Medical College Hospitals in the state, the Youth Congress launched a "youth care" programme during the COVID-19 period, but no care was given.
"The Youth Congress workers should carry out voluntary work in their respective areas to attract people to the fold of the Congress party", the senior leader said.
Apparently stunned by Chennithala's comments, Youth Congress state president Shafi Parambil, MLA, said in a Facebook post that the organization will not forget the "dear colleagues who bravely led the activities of Youth Car in times of crises" with their own labour and without the help of any government systems.
"You and Youth Care are proud", he wrote on his Facebook page, addressing the workers of the outfit, praising their activities "while being accused in many cases and having to be victims of "cruel lathi" charges during their fight against anti-people decisions (of the Left government in the state).
DYFI All India president A A Rahim MP thanked Chennithala for his good words about DYFI.
He said that earlier KPCC chief K Sudhakaran had also made similar remarks.
