Palakkad (Keralam) | Railway authorities on Tuesday reported finding a concrete slab, a piece of rail and other objects on the railway track on the Shoranur-Ottappalam route in Keralam, while police have taken one person into custody in connection with the incident.

Railway Signal and Telecommunication staff found a heavy concrete slab on the track near Mannanur around 9.35 am and immediately removed it, railway officials said.

At 10.07 am, the loco pilot of Train No 16607 reported a bag and a piece of rail on the track near Shoranur. They also said a cement bag was found on the down line between Mannanur and Shoranur.

Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel reached the locations, while the Assistant Security Commissioner, Palakkad, proceeded to the spot.

Railway Engineering officials inspected the track and certified it fit for train operations at 10.30 am. No train detention was reported due to the incidents, officials said.

Police said one person from a northern Indian state had been taken into custody in connection with the incident. He is suspected to be suffering from mental illness, but his involvement in placing the objects on the track has not yet been established. The police said the investigation was underway.
