Palakkad (Kerala) | The Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights on Thursday directed the authorities to examine safety measures at the ropeway in Malampuzha Garden following a complaint about the safety of children using the facility.
The commission acted on a complaint alleging inadequate safety measures in the glass-enclosed ropeway cabins and raising concerns that rising temperatures inside the cabins during hot weather could adversely affect children's health.
Commission Chairperson K V Manoj Kumar issued the direction while presiding over a sitting at the Collectorate Conference Hall.
Officials informed the commission that renovation work was under way at the park and that a modern ropeway equipped with enhanced safety features would be commissioned after the work was completed.
They said safety measures at the existing facility were being monitored regularly.
The commission directed the authorities to verify whether adequate safety protocols were being followed during swimming training programmes, especially during the monsoon season, when the risk of communicable diseases, including brain fever, was higher.
It directed officials to complete, in a time-bound manner, the investigation into the alleged murder of a child who was reportedly pushed into a pond.
The commission called for improving infrastructure in schools and addressing safety lapses in some anganwadis, saying adequate physical infrastructure was essential for children's safety and well-being.
Commission member P Shajesh Bhaskar urged district authorities and officials to pay greater attention to issues concerning children's rights.
The commission disposed of 41 complaints during the sitting, while 20 were kept pending for further inquiry and appropriate orders, out of a total of 61 complaints considered.
