Thiruvananthapuram | BJP Keralam president Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Wednesday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar for their intervention in securing the release of three members of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church detained in Saudi Arabia.
In a Facebook post, Chandrasekhar said Danielmon, Liju Mathew and Mathew Cheriachen were released from detention and had returned to their families following what he described as sustained intervention by the Prime Minister's Office and the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia.
He said every Indian who lives by the law, irrespective of faith and wherever they are in the world, has the confidence that the Prime Minister is there to protect them.
Chandrasekhar said the BJP-led NDA government would not remain a "mute spectator" if Keralites faced difficulties anywhere in the world and would intervene to find solutions.
The BJP state chief said he joined Mar Thoma Metropolitan Dr Theodosius Mar Thoma and the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church community in expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister in this regard.
The Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church had also recently expressed gratitude to Modi and the Government of India for their efforts to secure the release of the three church members, who had been detained at a detention centre in Saudi Arabia.
In a letter to Modi, the Mar Thoma Metropolitan had thanked the PM and his office for their "sincere and sustained efforts" in securing their release.
The Metropolitan had also acknowledged the efforts and coordination of the Embassy of India in Saudi Arabia and said the release had brought immense relief and joy to the detainees, their families and the wider community.
