Kannur (Keralam) | The BJP and Yuva Morcha activists on Monday waved black flags at the convoy of Keralam Chief Minister VD Satheesan in various locations in the district, in retaliation for a similar protest staged by Youth Congress activists during Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to Kollam district last week, police said.
Satheesan is in the district to attend various events.
A group of BJP and Yuva Morcha activists assembled by the roadside and attempted to block the Chief Minister's convoy and wave black flags as it passed through Mattannur, police said.
However, police, anticipating the protest, were present in the area and prevented the protesters from blocking the convoy, officials said.
Television visuals showed that, in the absence of women police personnel, male police officers had to restrain female BJP activists.
Police said that similar attempts by Yuva Morcha activists to wave black flags at Satheesan's convoy took place in Kannur town and Thana here.
There are reports that police have enhanced security for the CM in view of the protest.
On September 26, Youth Congress leaders staged a black-flag protest against Shah when his convoy was travelling from Kollam to Kundara.
Shah was in Kollam district to attend multiple events.
On Sunday, BJP and Yuva Morcha workers, in retaliation, waved black flags at the convoys of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Keralam Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala and Tourism Minister P C Vishnunadh in separate incidents in Kozhikode and Kollam.
