Thiruvananthapuram | The BJP will organise a 'Seva Jyothi Yatra' at 30 centres across Keralam on October 7 to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 25 years in public service, state BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar said on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference here, Chandrasekhar said the yatra would be held across all organisational districts of the BJP in the country, with public meetings from 10 am followed by two-wheeler rallies involving thousands of party workers and youngsters.

He said the programme was not aimed at celebrating or personally idolising Modi, but at highlighting the culture of service, development and performance that he had brought into politics over the past 25 years.

As Gujarat Chief Minister, Modi has led development and social change despite severe challenges, with major changes in education, empowerment of women and girls, welfare of tribal and backward communities and infrastructure, Chandrasekhar said.

When Modi became prime minister in 2014, he inherited an India facing a weak economy, a distressed banking system, unemployment and security challenges, he said.

The country's progress in the economy, infrastructure and national security over the last 12 years had been acknowledged globally, Chandrasekhar claimed, describing Modi's 25 years in politics as "politics of service" and "politics of performance."

He said the BJP would use the Seva Jyothi Yatra to highlight this politics of service and also urged people to compare Modi's 25 years in public life with the 10-year UPA rule led by the Congress and the 10 years of CPI(M) rule in Keralam.

"Let the people themselves assess which politics has brought development, opportunities and change in their lives," he said.

Chandrasekhar also said the present Congress-led UDF government in Keralam should be assessed on the same parameters based on its first 150 days in office.

He questioned what people had received from the government which came to power promising a "New Keralam" and five guarantees.

People were seeing luxury vehicles for ministers, private jet travel by the chief minister, power restrictions and shortage of medicines in hospitals, while the announced guarantees had not been implemented, he alleged.

He further alleged that the state government had failed to ensure that people benefited from Central schemes such as PM Awas Yojana, PM SHRI and Ayushman Bharat, while its priority was to give the Muslim League a sixth Cabinet berth.

At the same time, the public should discuss what the Congress and CPI(M)'s politics had delivered to the country and Keralam, Chandrasekhar said, adding that people should decide whether the state needed politics that resolved their problems and created development and opportunities or one that created controversies and anarchy.
