Kottayam (Keralam) | A BJP delegation on Saturday met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar and sought action against state Sports Minister OJ Janeesh over the black-flag protest staged against Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Kollam last week.
Youth Congress workers had staged the protest when Shah was in Kollam to attend various events. Janeesh, who is also the Youth Congress state president, later said the protest was carried out in accordance with a decision of the organisation.
In retaliation, BJP and Yuva Morcha activists have been staging black-flag protests against Keralam ministers across the state.
The delegation, comprising BJP leaders P K Krishnadas, S Suresh and Shone George, submitted a representation to the governor in Pala, alleging a security lapse during Shah's visit.
The governor was in Pala to attend various events when he met the BJP leaders.
The BJP alleged that Janeesh had violated his oath of office and the Constitution by taking responsibility for the protest.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Krishnadas said the representation was submitted on behalf of BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
He alleged that Youth Congress workers blocking Shah's convoy and waving black flags during his visit to Kollam amounted to an attempt to endanger the union Home minister's life.
Krishnadas claimed that Janeesh had publicly taken responsibility for the protest and said Youth Congress workers had acted on his instructions following a decision by the organisation.
He alleged that the minister had reiterated his responsibility for the incident in Kollam on Friday.
"No further proof than this is required to show that he has committed a blatant violation of his oath of office and a violation of the Constitution," Krishnadas said.
He alleged that a criminal conspiracy was behind the incident and claimed that the minister had openly admitted his role in it.
The BJP delegation demanded action against the minister, alleging that he had violated his constitutional responsibilities.
