Thiruvananthapuram | BJP leader K Surendran, who is contesting from the Manjeshwar constituency in the April 9 Kerala Assembly polls, has 242 pending criminal cases against him, according to his nomination papers filed on Saturday.

According to the affidavit submitted along with his nomination papers, most of the 242 cases against Surendran are for leading or being part of various protests and agitations.

In his affidavit, he has also declared assets, both movable and immovable, worth over Rs 28 lakh and liabilities of more than Rs nine lakh.

His party colleague and Union Minister of State George Kurian, who is contesting from the Kanjirappally seat, has only one pending criminal case against him for leading a protest in Thiruvananthapuram in 2014.

Kurian, in his affidavit, has declared assets, both movable and immovable, of over Rs 1.74 crore and liabilities of close to Rs two lakhs.

Former Union Minister of State V Muraleedharan, who is contesting from Kazhakootam constituency, is facing eight criminal cases for being part of various protests and agitations.

He has declared movable assets of over Rs 20 lakh and has claimed that he has no immovable property, according to his affidavit.

BJP leader Sobha Surendran, who is contesting from the Palakkad constituency, has 35 criminal cases pending against her, majority of them for leading and being part of various protests and agitations.

She has declared assets, both movable and immovable, worth over Rs 1.94 crore in her affidavit.

BJP councillor and former DGP R Sreelekha, who is contesting from Vattiyoorkavu constituency, in her affidavit has declared assets, both movable and immovable, of over Rs five crore.

She has one criminal case against her, lodged this year, for allegedly disclosing the identity of a POCSO case victim, according to her affidavit.

She has denied the allegation and has moved the Kerala High Court to quash the FIR.

Four LDF ministers declare assets of Rs 2 cr each

Thiruvananthapuram | Several LDF ministers, who are contesting in the upcoming April 9 Kerala Assembly polls, on Saturday declared assets of close to Rs two crore each in their nomination papers.

Ministers K N Balagopal, V Sivankutty, R Bindu and Roshy Augustine declared assets, both movable and immovable, of over Rs 1.94 crore, Rs 2.29 crore, Rs 2.14 crore and Rs 1.84 crore, respectively.

The spouses of Sivankutty and Augustine have assets worth over Rs two crore, according to their respective affidavits.

In the case of state PWD Minister P A Mohamed Riyas, he has assets worth less than Rs 40 lakh, while his wife Veena T -- daughter of Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan -- has assets of close to Rs two crore.

Riyas, according to his affidavit, was also involved in 12 criminal cases related to various protests and six of them have been closed with payment of fines, while the remaining are pending.

There were no criminal cases against Bindu, Balagopal and Augustine, according to their respective affidavits.

However, Sivankutty is facing seven criminal cases of which one is related to the 2015 ruckus in the state legislative assembly, according to his affidavit.

Congress leader Chennithala declares assets of over Rs 2.64 cr

Thiruvananthapuram | Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala, who is contesting from the Haripad constituency in the April 9 Kerala Assembly polls, on Saturday declared assets, both movable and immovable, of over Rs 2.64 crore in his nomination papers.

In his affidavit, he also declared that his wife has assets of over Rs 5.2 crore, which include 1,440 grams of gold.

He also said, in his affidavit, that he has 10 cases pending against him for being part of various agitations and has not been convicted in any of them.

His party colleague and former Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief K Muraleedharan, who is contesting from the Vattiyoorkavu constituency, has declared movable and immovable assets worth over Rs 5.2 crore.

In his affidavit, he has also stated that his wife has assets, movable and immovable, worth more than Rs 15 crore.

Muraleedharan also said that he has five criminal cases pending against him with some of them in connection with protest marches held by him.

The current KPCC chief, Sunny Joseph, who is contesting from Peravur seat, has declared assets, movable and immovable, of around Rs 79 lakh with his wife having property, valuables and money of around Rs 84 lakh.

Joseph, according to his affidavit, has one criminal case pending against him.

Former CPI(M) leader G Sudhakaran, who is being backed by the UDF as an independent candidate from the Ambalapuzha constituency, has declared assets worth around Rs 67 lakh.

According to his affidavit, he is facing one criminal case for being part of a protest.
