11-year-old girl dies after falling ill during karate practice in Kollam

Kollam (Kerala) | An 11-year-old girl died after experiencing discomfort while practising karate here on Thursday, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Ahana Binoy, daughter of Binoy Babu of Ampalakkara, Valakom.

According to police, Ahana had been practising karate for the past few years and was preparing for a black belt test at a cultural academy in Anchal.

Police officials said she began training for the test at around 9.30 am. At around 1.40 pm, she developed discomfort and started vomiting.

Ahana’s mother, Simi, who was also present at the academy, noticed her condition and rushed her to a nearby hospital with the help of the trainer, but she died at the hospital, police said.

Anchal police have registered a case and started an investigation into the incident.

Police said the parents of the deceased have raised allegations against the academy, but a detailed probe is required in this regard.

The exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the postmortem, they added.
