Washington | Indian Ambassador to the US Vinay Mohan Kwatra held talks with US lawmaker Pete Sessions on issues of mutual interest and also appreciated his support for a stronger partnership between the two countries.

"Had a good conversation on issues of mutual interest with Congressman @PeteSessions, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Government Operations in House Oversight Committee today. Appreciate his steadfast support for a stronger India-US partnership," Kwatra posted on X.

Sessions is currently a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee and is the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Government Operations on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

Kwatra also appreciated Sessions's "steadfast support for a stronger India-US partnership." On Thursday, Kwatra met US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and former National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien.

The meeting on Wednesday took place as India and the US are negotiating the finer elements of a bilateral trade agreement (BTA).

In February, India and the US announced finalisation of a framework for the first phase of the bilateral trade agreement. According to that framework, the US had agreed to reduce tariffs on India to 18 per cent.
