New Delhi | The CBI Thursday sought a polygraph test on forme RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh and four other doctors in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee at the hospital, officials said.

The CBI took Ghosh and four other doctors, who were on duty on the date of the incident, to a special court for seeking its permission to conduct the lie detection test on them, they said.

The lie detection test can only be done after a permission from the court and the consent of the suspect, they said.

Earlier in the day, the CBI alleged in the Supreme Court that there was an attempt by the local police to cover-up the rape and killing of the post-graduate medic as the crime scene was altered by the time the federal agency took over the probe.

The rape and killing of the junior doctor in a seminar hall of the hospital has sparked widespread protests.

The medic's body with severe injury marks was found inside the seminar hall of the hospital's chest department in the morning of August 9. A civic volunteer of the Kolkata Police was arrested the following day.

On August 13, the Calcutta High Court ordered the transfer of the probe from the Kolkata Police to the CBI, which started its investigation on August 14.

Arrested accused pervert, addicted to pornography

Kolkata | The psychoanalytic profile of the arrested accused in the rape and murder of the woman doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sanjay Roy, indicated that he was a pervert and severely addicted to pornography, a CBI officer said on Thursday.

Quoting the doctors from New Delhi's Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), the officer also said that the civic volunteer of the Kolkata Police has an "animal-like instinct".

The body of the post-graduate trainee was found in the seminar room of the hospital on August 9. The civic volunteer was arrested the next day in this connection.

"The man showed no repentance and narrated the entire episode giving every minute detail without hiccups. It appeared that he had no remorse," the official of the central probe agency told PTI on Thursday.

Several pornographic contents were found in the mobile phone that Roy was using and later seized by the Kolkata Police before the investigation was handed over to the CBI on an order of the Calcutta High Court.

The CBI officer said that pieces of evidence, both technical and scientific, "very much support" that the accused was present at the crime scene.

Referring to the CCTV footage collected from the hospital, he said, Roy could be seen near the chest department ward at around 11 am on August 8.

"Footage showed him entering the same building again at around 4 am on August 9. Certain technical and scientific evidence corroborated that," he said.

The officer did not want to divulge anything about the DNA tests conducted on Roy.

He also refused to comment on the ongoing buzz that there was no gangrape in this case.

The CBI officers have visited Roy's residence in Bhowanipore, spoke to his family members, neighbours and also to his colleagues in the Kolkata Police force.

BJP workers scuffle with police during protest march, many leaders detained

Kolkata | Scuffles broke out on Thursday between police personnel and BJP supporters during a march in the eastern fringes of Kolkata to protest against the alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital here earlier this month.

The BJP's march to 'Swasthya Bhawan', the headquarters of the state health department in Salt Lake, began from Hudco crossing, around five km away.

The state BJP had earlier announced that its leaders will gherao 'Swasthya Bhawan'.

During the rally led by its state president Sukanta Majumdar and Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, the party supporters tried to break police barricades set up at several places on the route.

The police initially tried to pacify the supporters, but later chased them with lathis to disperse the crowd.

Adhikari was detained by police and put inside a prison van, following which the BJP activists tried to forcibly free him.

“By arresting me or beating up BJP workers, the TMC government cannot run away from its responsibilities. We want the immediate resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and we won’t stop till that happens,” he said.

Adhikari said he along with four other leaders wanted to meet the state health secretary and submit a deputation.

“But, we were not allowed to submit it. Our party leaders, including me and our party MP Samik Bhattacharya, were detained,” he said.

The saffron party workers shouted slogans like ‘we want justice’ and ‘Mamata Banerjee, resign’ during the march.

"The police were very active in stopping our march to Swasthya Bhawan. But, they were inactive when RG Kar hospital was vandalised. We want the truth to come out. The TMC government has completely failed to protect the mothers and sisters of our state. Mamata Banerjee should immediately resign as chief minister,” Majumdar said.

The young woman doctor, whose body was found on August 9 in the seminar room of RG Kar hospital, was allegedly raped and murdered while on duty. The incident has sparked nationwide protests, with medics observing ceasework at several hospitals.
