Bhopal | The central government has closed its night shelter scheme (Rain Basera) operated in Madhya Pradesh. Five years ago, 119 night shelters were opened in Madhya Pradesh. For this the budget was allocated from the center. The plan made for five years has closed on 31 March 2023.

Now the state government is making a proposal to restart these night shelters at its own expense. Budget provision can be made for this in the first supplementary budget to be presented in July. The Urban Development and Housing Department has started discussions with the Finance Department regarding this. It is being told that these night shelters will also be renamed.

The night shelter scheme was formed for the purpose of night rest for the people coming from other cities to the big cities. Under this scheme, the Government of India had allocated budget by approving night shelters for various states. This scheme has been successful in Madhya Pradesh for five years, but now after the expiry of the term of this scheme of the Center, the budget has stopped.

However, 10-15 night shelters approved in the second phase are still operational. In these night shelters, the needy person can take night rest by paying a very small fee. Along with this, food is also provided here under Deendayal Rasoi Yojana.

In big cities, the night shelter is their shelter for those who earn their livelihood by doing daily wages and who live by begging. On March 31, more than 100 night shelters were closed.
