Bhopal | Madhya Kshetra Vidyut Vitran Company on Monday took action against electricity bill defaulters as well as those using illegal and unauthorized electricity in theft-dominated areas of Bhopal city by conducting a large-scale intensive checking campaign.

Under this checking campaign, the company conducted a checking campaign by forming 47 teams in theft-dominated areas under Bhopal city and during the checking, Rs 2.5 lakh were collected from 29 outstanding consumers under Janata Quarter and Aishbagh Road feeder Bagh Farhat Afza under East Division Chandbad zone.

A total of 179 cases were registered under sections 135, 138 and 126 of the Electricity Act 2003 for illegal and unauthorized use of electricity along with removal of meters installed in their premises due to outstanding amounts of electricity bills, out of which in 60 cases, consumers were charged.

An amount of Rs 5.21 lakh has been recovered from Similarly, on 315 KVA Janta Quarter Hand Pump DP Aishbagh, 97 percent on 63 connected consumers approximately Rs 6.17 lakh , on 200 KVA Jail Bagh feeder under South Division, on 82 connected consumers approximately Rs 7.45 lakh.

Zahid Khan, General Manager, City Circle, Madhya Kshetra Vidyut Vitran Company, has informed that the company is regularizing the connections by checking illegal connections and conducting an intensive checking campaign against those who use unauthorized electricity and against those who use unauthorized electricity. Action is being taken under sections 126 and 135 of the Electricity Act 2003.

Madhya Kshetra Vidyut Vitran Company has appealed to the general public and consumers to use electricity only by taking valid connections and pay electricity bills on time. The company has said that it will stop social crimes like power theft and not make illegal and unauthorized use of electricity. Avoid lawsuits and unpleasant action under sections 126, 135 and 138 of the Electricity Act 2003 in cases of electricity theft.

There are provisions for strict action under these sections, even the guilty consumers can be jailed. It is noteworthy that in cases of electricity theft, there is a provision of fine or imprisonment or both punishments if the charges are found proved.
