
Kolkata | The Enterprising Travel Agents Association, Eastern India Chapter (ETAA) successfully organized a comprehensive World Environment Day celebration at the Guru Nanak Institute of Hotel Management (GNIHM) Campus, Kolkata, with dedicated support from the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, Kolkata Regional Office.
The celebration brought together tourism industry professionals, hospitality students and their faculties and environmental expert, to address the critical intersection of sustainable tourism and environmental conservation. The event emphasized the tourism sector's vital role in promoting eco-friendly practices, avoiding plastic use and responsible travel.
Key Activities and Discussions
The day-long program featured interactive sessions on sustainable tourism and on reducing carbon footprint in the hospitality industry. Participants engaged in meaningful discussions about implementing green initiatives across hotels, travel agencies, and tour operations.
Distinguished speaker Mr. Nirit Datta, highlighted possible initiatives promoting sustainable tourism development, while Mr. Koushik Banerjee, Regional Director & Chapter Chairman, ETAA, shared best practices for environmental stewardship in tourism operations.
The event also showcased innovative approaches to waste management, energy conservation, and community-based tourism models. The event ended with Tree Plantation drive by GNIHM students and faculties and ETAA members. Participation Certificates were handed over to students of GNIHM and ETAA members.
